Global Deaf Research Institute launched 2025 with international momentum, including a cross-Taiwan cycling fundraiser, government meetings in São Paulo to advance deaf-led research, and a new U.S. documentation initiative focused on deaf people impacted by ICE enforcement. With nearly $2,000 raised in January, GDRI is building the global collaborations and advocacy tools needed to improve deaf people's quality of life worldwide.
From the Global Disability Summit in Berlin to the United Nations Conference of State Parties, GDRI has spent the past six months deepening global partnerships and advocating for deaf inclusion at the highest levels. With the relaunch of their flagship initiative as Deaf Voices Counted and an upcoming expansion into the Dominican Republic, GDRI continues to center deaf-led, community-driven research worldwide.
The first diabetes information website built primarily in American Sign Language (ASL) has launched, addressing a critical gap in accessible health education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people who face elevated diabetes risk. The site features ASL videos, GIFs, visual explainers, and a sign language glossary of diabetes terms - making prevention and self-management information available in users' primary language for the first time.
