May was an exciting month for Global Deaf Research Institute. From earning platinum transparency recognition and securing new grant funding to releasing a United Nations webinar and announcing our upcoming fundraiser, this month brought meaningful milestones at every level. Here is what we have been working on.
Reaching Platinum Transparency Status
We are proud to share that GDRI has achieved Platinum Transparency status on Candid, formerly GuideStar. Platinum is the highest level of recognition awarded to nonprofits that demonstrate exceptional openness about their work, finances, and impact. This recognition reflects our deep commitment to accountability and to keeping our community and partners informed about how we operate and how their support is put to use.
Winning a $20,000 Grant from the Deaf Organizations Fund
We are thrilled to announce that GDRI has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the Deaf Organizations Fund. This investment will go directly toward building a stronger donor program and expanding our fundraising capacity, so that we can grow the resources needed to sustain and deepen deaf-led research for years to come. A stronger fundraising foundation means we can say yes to more opportunities, support more communities, and ensure this work continues to grow.
As part of this grant, we put together a short donor-facing survey to help demonstrate the impact of this work to our funders. If you are willing to take a few minutes to share your perspective, we would be grateful:

UN Webinar on Intersectionality and Citizen Data
The United Nations Statistics Division has released the recording of our webinar on guidance for applying intersectionality in citizen data research. This presentation, delivered by our team, draws on our national deaf needs assessment work and explores how intersectional approaches lead to stronger, more equitable data and policy outcomes.
