Thanks to your continued generosity and belief in our mission, January marked a strong and energizing start to the year for Global Deaf Research Institute. This month was filled with global collaboration, grassroots advocacy, and meaningful steps toward improving deaf people’s quality of life worldwide. Here’s what we’ve been working on.
Levi Cycles Across Taiwan for GDRI
We kicked off the year with an inspiring fundraising effort as Levi began cycling across Taiwan to raise funds and awareness for Global Deaf Research Institute. This journey highlights the power of community driven advocacy and the many ways supporters are stepping up to advance deaf led research and action.

Building Collaboration in Sao Paulo, Brazil
In January, we met with government officials in Sao Paulo, Brazil to discuss existing services and resources for deaf people and explore opportunities for collaboration. A key focus of these conversations is hiring a deaf Brazilian researcher to evaluate current services and conduct surveys within the deaf community. This work will help us understand how effective these programs are and identify areas for improvement.
Alongside these meetings, we engaged with many incredible deaf leaders across Brazil. These leaders are ready to collaborate and contribute their expertise toward improving deaf Brazilians’ quality of life through research, advocacy, and community engagement.
New Advocacy Work in the United States
We also announced the launch of a new documentation initiative focused on deaf people in the United States who are being impacted by ICE enforcement. In January, we began reaching out to organizations doing similar work to explore collaboration and strengthen advocacy tools. Our goal is to better understand how to mobilize support and protect deaf lives through informed, community centered advocacy.

Thanks to your support, we raised almost $2,000 in January to advance our global work. Every contribution directly supports deaf led research, international collaboration, and advocacy efforts that center lived experience and data driven change.
