For the past 3 years, GDRI has partnered with the University of Utah to produce accessible informational resources about diabetes. Health literacy is a challenge many deaf people face, and for deaf people with diabetes, being able to understand their condition and treatment can make a huge difference in their quality of life.
We were pleased to host our longtime collaborators from the University of Utah, Michelle Litchman and Bruno Gonazales to attend a meeting with the Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health to discuss making these same resources we’ve been working on for the past 3 years available in Ecuadorian Sign Language. The representatives of the Ministry were enthusiastic about the project, and are in the process of drafting an official agreement to continue this work.
Though Deaf Community Research: Ecuador is wrapping up, GDRI is committed to maintaining lasting partnerships with our contacts in the global deaf community: each deployment is just the beginning!
