GDRI Public Dataset Access and Ethics
Overview
The Global Deaf Research Institute provides publicly available, de-identified research datasets to support disability and deaf related scholarship, replication, and secondary analysis.
Data Access
The dataset is publicly available through the Global Deaf Research Institute website. Access is open to all users and does not require an application, institutional affiliation, or approval.
To protect the integrity of the dataset and reduce automated misuse, access may include automated safeguards such as CAPTCHA and rate limiting. These safeguards do not restrict access to eligible users and do not involve review or approval by GDRI staff.
Data Use and Secondary Analysis
The dataset is provided for research and educational purposes, including secondary analysis, replication, and methodological work.
De-identification
The dataset is de-identified prior to release. It does not contain direct identifiers. The dataset is released in a form intended to prevent the identification of individuals.
Ethics and IRB Guidance
Secondary analysis of publicly available, de-identified datasets often does not constitute human subjects research because it does not involve identifiable private information.
Researchers are responsible for following their institution’s policies. Some institutions may still require an IRB determination of exemption or non-human subjects research, even when IRB review is not legally required.
Citation
Users of the dataset must cite the dataset in publications, presentations, and reports.
